Āporo Press is excited to open submissions for the first time! We are looking to publish two zines in time for Tāmaki Makaurau Zinefest in July.
What are we looking for?
We’re open to any ideas that would fit in a 24-page A5 zine. This could be a series of poems, pieces of short fiction or essays, comics, artwork or anything else that would work in a printed medium. You don’t need to have a full manuscript planned out, but due to the short turnaround it’s best to have most of the work completed already.
Who can submit?
Anyone currently living in Aotearoa! We’re open to solo or duo submissions. Our preference is to publish underrepresented voices but we will consider all submissions.
What’s the compensation?
Āporo Press pays its authors 50% of the profit earned on each publication. For a duo this would be split to 25% each. Well also provide several copies of the zine.
When’s the deadline?
Midnight Sunday, 18 May!
How do I submit?

If you’re an absolute newbie to the world of zines, then don’t worry! We are able to provide guidance to those who aren’t very confident or comfortable in this space. In that case, just focus on your idea rather than any concepts about what it could look like.
What to include?
- A short bio about you (and your collaborator if applicable)
- Your personal background (whakapapa, identity etc.)
- Any zine experience you might have, or what interests you about the medium
- Socials, if you want to share
- Details about the mahi you’d like to publish as a zine
- Is it writing, artwork or something else?
- Is the work finished, a work in progress or just an idea?
- Any conceptual ideas you might have for how to work would fit a zine format (24 pages max at A5 size with an additional front and back cover)
- Attachments of any existing work you’d like to include in the zine
We will email everyone who submits a few days after submissions close with the results of our selections.
