Goose barnacles are crustaceans
that have morphed
into rock-hugging anemone
named for barnacle geese who lay
their eggs in the same cliff
Few settled nearby could believe
they were different
structures both ghost white sand
rough
As rock whittled by water
it’s easy for options to seem limited
full of loose gravel
Sessile animals doomed to spend
their lives clinging or hollow bones
freshly hatched and tumbling downward
