After Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s Le Lit, 1892
my field of vision consists of you &
the crimson expanse of silken sheets
draped over our ivory forms & incubating us in this world where only we exist
nothing bad can happen to us here
for we are in bed & in love
pillows lay crested around your head like a crown
a pillow princess in her finest form
i am drinking your image in for i am dehydrated &
i am not sure i’ll ever get my fill
your fingers find mine & interlace
there is such tenderness in the simplicity of our touch
your warmth radiates through me into the
coldest corners of my body
lulling me into the deepest of sleeps
where i dream of you & me & this bed
