Creation

After Alexis Hunter’s Creation, 1987

what rough beast sponging in the shadows
brewing in the burgeoning day

what bacteria kissing out
from what tarn of what earth’s tears
tears of perineum from before
time got its stitches
what eyes scumming sums
of parts puckering or
what ears hear that chatter of
falling acid rain which is water
in these new baby mouths so soft
such a furtive nocturnal animal
such a fungal growth
this love, this lava
sprung

towards bedlam to be born
