balaena bay august 2021

scar tissue ripples on the water
nature repeats itself in the strangest ways
giving salt to the salt
i shed

the wind harries
as i gaze—face masked, body cold
at the tumult and revel
of the endless waves

wishing for soothing
i have wandered
there’s a salvation in the chilling
better than one found in a knife

so the ocean moves before me
& moves me too
i’ll never know if my eyes are red rimmed
as i walk my way home
